Free Stuff to do In Austin

Zilker Park: 

Visit Austin states:

“Stop and smell the roses at Zilker Park, a 360-acre oasis in the heart of the city that’s home to the blooming Zilker Botanical Garden (reserve tickets online in advance) and Barton Springs Pool (reservations recommended).”

This is a great spot for families, including dogs.  It is such a fun environment where you will often see food trucks or different events going on.

Hike & Bike Trail

Another great tip from Visit Austin:

“Rent a bicycle from Barton Springs Bike Rental & Tours and bike the 10-mile Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail that skirts the glittering waters of Lady Bird Lake. Insider Tip: Snap a selfie with the statue of Austin music legend Stevie Ray Vaughan stationed along the route.”

It sounds confusing, but there are many names for the Hike & Bike Trails, including the above and also “Lady Bird Trail”, etc. but it is a 10 mile loop around Lady Bird Lake which has multiple loops if you want to do a smaller loop.

Shop South Congress: 

Well…this probably doesn’t technically suffice as free, as I often walk away with a purchase, but it is a great place to hang out for the day.

“Take a shopping stroll along South Congress, known for its funky stores and chic boutiques. Check out the kicks at Allens Boots, affordable jewelry by local artists at Paper Work, and beautiful retro wares at Feathers Vintage.”

There are a lot of great restaurants and hotels along this street too.  So, whether it’s a vacation or a staycation, it is one of the top spots in the city.
